Why Explore Animation?

Animation is a wonderfully versatile activity that encourages and develops key soft skills using technology.

  • Team building
  • Problem solving
  • Hands-on creativity
  • Computational thinking
  • Storytelling
  • Planning
  • Sharing understanding creatively
  • Speaking and listening skills
  • Creativity with technology
  • Using technology to produce original content  rather than consume

Computer games, TV and Cinema are huge industries relying on animators. Most special effects in movies are a form of animation. Animation also exists within apps, on web sites and on our connected devices.

With animation we can tell a different kind of story, a story that would be hard or even impossible to tell using actors.

Technology is becoming increasingly accessible to all ages and abilities. Many animation apps are free and the cameras on  mobile devices and tablets are excellent. Post production is also possible, using apps to add titles, music, a voice over and more.

There has never been a better time to explore animation, using you classroom computers for a fun, creative activity.

What Do I Need?

An iPad, Chrome Book or Laptop. We will forward our preferred App list on receipt of your booking.

Course Content

Three styles of animation using iPad

There has been a huge amount of interest in the Furnished Learning self-paced Animation course, as schools start to plan more creative and fun lessons using their class technology.

The day long course will introduce you to three different styles of animation, easily achievable using  technology and a small selection of free apps.

  • Stop motion animation, Wallace and Grommit style, animating a plasticine model

  • GIF based drawing, art animation, creating fun GIFs from student art work

  • Puppet animation using two of my favourite apps, great for many subject areas and almost all keystages.

To give teachers time to develop confidence, through a series of hands on activities, using their own technology to explore a variety of free apps and workflows. Perfect for digital art lessons and supporting the animation modules of the IT and computing curriculum.

“Thank you very much - that was great. I have done the Animated course on Furnished Learning - and this was great too. I really want to do Stop Motion Animation with Romeo and Juliet!”

K. Lawton – Sutton High School.

“I really enjoyed your workshop. The stop motion animation will be a great way of working with an art club project in the summer term.”

E. Rice – Downs School
